Radio Headsets
Headsets, also known as headphones, are hearing devices that are actually miniature speaker systems. They are stereo hearing systems that can be worn near the ear, thus providing mobility to the user. Traditional headsets were bulky and large with two speakers for both the ears encased in padded ovular ear cups. These ear cups were attached to a headband in the shape of an arch that went over the head. Each of these ear cups had a signal wire joined down together as a single wire, which was connected to the audio player or radio through a headphone jack.Today's headsets, especially radio headsets, are technological wonders-extremely lightweight with no irritating cords, almost negligible in...
Pilot Ground Training
All flight training begins on the ground. The worst place to learn a new skill is in an airplane. It can be very difficult to grasp new concepts in the air without reviewing them first on the ground. In the plane, training in the cockpit can have other environmental issues such as cold (or hot), noisy, and bumpy. You want to get up in the air as soon as possible and as frequently as possible. Don't waste time at the airport studying things you could have done at home. Get your studying done before you get to the air. Some of the pilot instructors may have been guilty of skipping some of the ground training so they could get in the air quick, too. I've heard that some pilots have even missed...

Jet Aviation Sold to Permira Funds
Jet Aviation has announced that they have been sold, pending antitrust clearance, to the Permira Funds a leading international private equity specialist. Ending several years of speculation, the Zurich based operator of business jet services has finally accomplished what had long been expected: the sale of the Hirschmann family business to outsiders. As early as 2000 the sale of Jet Aviation had been expected by employees as well as by industry insiders. Indeed, Jet Aviation management had been marketed openly throughout 2001 by Goldman Sachs, but the sale was cancelled when a suitable buyer was not found and the terrorist attacks put a further drag on an already downturning economy. Still, rumors of...

Boot Camps
Boot camps essentially training camps. The term 'boot camp' is derived from the grueling footwear that is provided to boot camp trainees in the military. Boot camps last for a couple of weeks and are specifically designed for special purposes. The original boot camps are military boot camps. All branches of the armed forces have boot camps including the army, marines, coast guard, navy and air force. Boot camps for the military train their recruits in physical strength, weapon use, technical and theoretical knowledge, comradeship, leadership and discipline among many other code value. The actual effect of boot camps is more mental than physical. Trainees are deprived of sleep, food and communication...
How To Become a Fighter Pilot
Becoming a fighter pilot isn't something that happens overnight. It requires lots of time, dedication and perseverance if you want to be successful. A special type of person is required to join such an elite group. Funnily enough, most people think that becoming a fighter pilot is mostly about flying, when in fact that isn't the case. You also need to successfully train as an officer. So you're primarily an officer, even if you continue on to be a fighter pilot. Your primary job is to defend the USA against its enemies, and any career aspirations are secondary to that. There are three possible ways to train as an officer - service academy, Officer Candidate School (OCS) or Reserve Officers...
Flying in the Slow Lane
Dogs distrust hot air balloons. I gathered this tidbit as my husband and I floated over the mountains in a wicker gondola, listening to the barking chorus that followed us even 3,000 feet into the air. The burner evokes canine protest -- but we had no problems, as we drifted with the currents and contemplated the silent fog in its morning retreat over the hills. We learned that a mere a six foot rise in altitude can change your direction, if your vehicle is a hot air balloon. We learned that the tops of trees look a lot different from above, and birds look surprised if you greet them in their nest. We waved reassurance to cows whose moos voiced concern at our strange presence...
Special Considerations And Tips For Senior Citizens Travel
Cellular and extracellular changes of old age cause a change in physical appearance and a decline in function. Measurable changes in shape and body makeup occur. The body's ability to maintain homeostasis becomes increasingly diminished with cellular aging, and organ systems cannot function at full efficiency because of cellular and tissue deficits. The well-being of an aged person depends on physical, mental, social, and environmental factors. A total assessment includes an evaluation of all major body systems, social and mental status, and the ability of the person to function independently despite a chronic illness.Psychological Aspects of AgingSuccessful psychological aging is reflected in the...
Are You REALLY Serious About YOUR Success?
How about that for a provocative question! I'm sure your immediate answer is "Of course!" But many people who answer in this way simply aren't really serious about achieving success. Let me explain. Recently, I had dinner with my best friend. I hadn't seen him for a while as he is currently training to be a commercial pilot. During dinner, we discussed the importance of having complete focus on achieving success. In my own case, I wanted to run an Internet business and this meant giving up my full time job so I could focus on learning the necessary skills and have the time to develop and run my business. The process has required me to invest lots of time, lots of hard work and sacrificing a lot of...
Abandoning of Airbases and Military Aviation Facility Assets Overseas
Does it really make sense for the United States Military to abandon old air bases over seas? Such important assets may be needed in the future; perhaps not now or in this decade but at some point in the not so distant future. We must consider the ever changing political climate and the ways of the world before giving up important military assets in far regions of the world. We will need these bases and it seems rather insane to simply walk from such vital facilities now, with such an unknown number of potential eventualities and futures.Currently our US Military is considering getting rid of several over seas bases and those bases cost the US Taxpayer billions to build. Often our rational is based...
Using Delivery, Routing and Scheduling Software with GPS, CAD, GIS Data from Aviation
Well in aviation the toys for pilots are getting a lot better, for instance the GPS-PDAs with sectional charts on them. Also lots of other data like the J-Aide and Jeppeson airport contacts once you arrive. All this makes flying easier, less complicated and more enjoyable. AvMap EKP-III C even more cool are the ones with all the bells and whistles; Such as loading it with an International Data Base. Hell now the CIA can have all the civilian data along with their intelligence information. Of course this newest Industry finds itself with many new players as pilots are generally not having a problem affording new toys and it saves all those large flight bags and Knee Boards and clips. You can still...
GPS Navigation Systems and Data Problems
We have a serious problem brewing with GPS navigation systems for automobiles and even motorcycles. There are however problems with this devise as a high tech toy are more serious than you might think. Ask anyone in a metro area who has bought a new car with one of those cool GPS upgrades for their SUV or new sports car. We have had our customers complain (customers of the carwash business, which is my profession). Oh they love the gadget, but they are under whelmed by the lack of data and streets, which are not listed. You see we have been seeing incredible suburban growth in many cities. Places near large DMA metros are a problem out in the middle class suburbs. In many areas such as outside...
5 Steps to Becoming a Pilot
Think you don't have the money or the time to learn to fly? Training to be a pilot can mean expensive instruction fees, high gas prices and maintenance charges, and it can require many hours of flight time. But becoming a pilot doesn't have to be out of reach. By planning ahead and making strategic decisions, anyone can become a licensed pilot. Just follow these steps: 1. Research, research, research Many aspects of the student pilot process require you to do your homework, and with all of the information available on the internet there is no excuse for you to spend a penny more than you have to. By accessing free pilot resources online (at FAA.org, for example) you will save on the cost of...

Well here we go into the 2006 Atlantic Tropical Hurricane Season and the NOAA has already forecasted six to nine very violent and powerful Hurricanes to make landfall in the United States. Unfortunate considering that we are still not over the 2005 Hurricane Damage and some are still rebuilding from the 2004 Season. But if that were not enough we are now told by some Comet Watchers that the Schwassmann Wachmann Comet 73P is indeed breaking up and some of its fragments will be flying by Earth. Now do not worry as NASA says they are not close enough to hit us. Yet some conspiracy theorists, late night radio talk shows and psychics are saying not so fast. One has even stated he believes that a large...
Airport DVD Rentals
Airline passengers on both domestic and international flights are familiar with DVD movies shown to combat boredom during their travel. Some domestic flights might not have this option because of shorter flights, but international flights are making a great effort to include new DVD movies on the agenda to make a passenger's long journey as comfortable as possible.Stores who rent DVDs to airports try to do it at a considerably lower price than for individual customers, because airports order in lots. The number of flights leaving from big international airports can be as many as 10 or more per day, and all of these flights show movies during the course of travel.Airport authorities usually keep a...

The Doctor's Words Hung in the Air..."No Flying!"
The Doctor's words hung in the air creating suddenly a turbulent shocking ride in my life. Wow, those two little words may not sound devastating to you but to someone who earns their living flying airplanes, it's an awesome blow. Just imagine for a minute, your Doctor saying to you... "Steve, you can no longer _____." Fill in the blank with your profession. If you are a Doctor, "Julie, you can no longer Doctor". "Josh, you can no longer practice law." "Jon, you can no longer teach." Yes, those two words turned my shock and disbelief to fear. My life was suddenly without warning turned very upside down. Yeah, I spent a few days and sleepless nights in denial and feeling sorry for myself and asking...
Air Force One (DVD) Review

Aerial Fire Fighting Pilots; Kudos
I think these firefighters should be honored next fire season, these pilots give it all and they lose at least one pilot per year, since it is a very dangerous job flying low level in little or no visibility during the drop, with dead trees with no vegetation on them that stick up 40 feet plus high. During 9-11 ceremonies in 2005 we ought to think of all the fire fighters who give it all including these pilots, because each year they risk life and limb to battle the big ones. Fires, which threaten to destroy vast amounts of wilderness and whole cities and towns as we have seen on our TV sets and reports from FEMA. The costs are very serious also. Protecting the people at home are these people who...
Aviation Schools Train Pilots to Fly
Aviation training (pilot training, flight school) involves a rigorous undertaking of all things that affect aviation: aerodynamics, geography, mechanics, weather, and environmental conditions. Aviation training takes many hours of classroom study and discussion, as well as actual flying of jetcraft, airplanes, helicopters, air balloons, or whatever the focus of interest. Aviation careers begin in at various junctures, and are divergent in perspective and purpose. Most careers in aviation, however, remain in the airline industry.Airline flight decks around the world are staffed primarily by ex-military pilots. Military pilots undergo specialized training in preparation for flying under government...
7 Tips To Maximizing Your Battery Performance
Battery technology seems to have taken a leaping step recently, allowing electric RC models to go places where once only nitrous model could go. Leading this innovation are the Li-Po or Lithium Polymer batteries which has become the standard power source for electric powered helicopters, planes, cars, boats, and almost every other type of model. However, these batteries are not exactly cheap, and improper operations will have detrimental effects. Here are seven tips to maximize your battery performance. 1. Break In New Batteries Although not as big a deal with newer Li-Po packs as it was when NiMh and NiCad batteries were kings, it is still recommended that you fully charge the battery before first...
Public Relations for General Aviation FBOs
They say general aviation is a really tough place to make money and a really easy place to spend all your money, as owners of fixed based operations or FBOs often joke. But it is possible to have a successful FBO at a small or regional Airport without breaking the bank on their marketing budget or advertising budget. Public relations and airport community goodwill are in a circle part of the success of an FBO.What kinds of things can a fixed base operator at a small airport due to promote public-relations? Well, they can allow the Civil Air Patrol cadets to use their facilities for ground school. Perhaps they will volunteer a flight instructor to come teach the kids. The Boy Scouts also have; Boy...
Before Darkness, Awakens, To Rise
David Klovis grew up in Fresno. His father had been in the Air Force, loved everything about airplanes and moved his family into a new home within a mile of the airport's runway.David had inherited his father's love of all things associated with aviation. He never tired of watching the aircraft land and take off--or hearing the growl of the ANG--144th Fighter Wing, F-16 Fighting Falcons. So it was that David had a house built as close to the airport as the one he had lived in as a child. At most, it was a ten minute drive from home to work--The Air National Guard. Eight years ago Staff Sgt. David Klovis had made a career of the Guard and he had never regretted his decision. At thirty years of age he...
Riding Skills: Effects Of Strong Crosswinds On Choppers
During fall riding, we have to deal with strong and gusty winds. I suppose you could set a limit and say "I won't ride if the winds gust above 30 MPH... but what fun would that be? On a day like today (50 degrees and sunny) can you imagine not riding because of the wind? (Note: I do have my limits for things like temperatures and I suppose if the winds were above 40 MPH I would probably not ride. Just use your common sense and set your "personal limits" based on your bike limits and rider skill level). Aircraft pilots often refer to the season change from fall to winter as the "bumpy flight time" because Mother Nature has to use lots of wind to "push summer way" (likewise during the spring to summer...

The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress
Of all the heavy bombers that flew in WWII, the B-17 Flying Fortress was without a doubt one of the two most famous, the other being the Lancaster. The prototype first flew in 1935 but it would be another five years before the B-17 was delivered in any quantity. They first saw action with the RAF in 1941. The first order filled by Boeing was for 39 B-17Bs with turbo-charged Wright Cyclone radial engines. The 17C followed with seven machine guns instead of the original five; this modification together with better armor and self-sealing tanks in the 17d resulted from lessons learned in the early bombing raids over Europe. The B-17E and 17F soon followed with a larger tail. The final version came...
The ABC's of smart money investment: stocks 101 and mutual fund advice
If you are in a tight situation where you want to invest but you don't really know what steps to take, some preparatory insight into the background of stocks 101 and of mutual funds will most likely be of great assistance. Of course, a deficient and potentially ruinous investment is what you fear most, but with a guide through stocks 101 and, moreover, through the opportunities opened to you by a reliable source of mutual fund advice the risk you take is minimum. Look at stocks 101 as the starting point; with mutual funds you go a step further, because you will deal with an impressive diversification of stocks. However, let's focus first on the issue of stocks 101 and only afterwards talk about the...
Socio-Technical Systems and Organizational Values
Modern organizations define themselves using statements of vision. They state their vision in terms of human resources and technology, a socio-technical view. Modern organizations also define themselves in terms of values. New employees entering the organization learn the value system from employees with longevity in it. How organizations incorporate socio-technical systems as a reinforcement tool of their value system is the focus of this paper.ValuesIn business, small and large, values determine course the business sets for itself. Yukl (2006) defines values as key statements of an organization. The value statement is ideological, what the organization considers important. Many values find their...

Things You Should Know if You Are Interested in Pilot Training
If you are interested in pilot training, there are a few things that you should know. Most people are not aware of where or how they can train to be a pilot. In most parts of Canada and the United States there are special schools that specialize in pilot training. If you not sure where you can do this you can find information on the internet and if all else fails then you can contact your local airport and ask if they have any information about pilot training. If they do not then maybe they can suggest somewhere that you can find what you are looking for. Pilot training schools are considered private schools in most areas of Canada and the United States, therefore these schools will be more...
Nag's Head Blue Fish!
Rarely has there been a more perfect day for catching bluefish! Dark, rain laden clouds and a cold drizzle that left you chilled to the bone made the day one to remember. It was the third of June and the third day of our vacation. It was also a beautiful day for catching bluefish! My family and I were bundled up as if it were January. It was hot down in Alabama when we left, but now it was cold. This didn't seem to bother the fishermen though. The fishing pier was crowded with vacationers from all over the eastern seaboard; lined up on either side of the Nag's Head Fishing Pier.Ignoring the cold spray from the surf as it beat against the pier, dozens of men, women and kids wearing coats and...
Mother tongue or first language is perhaps the most favorite thing for any person. The question of language has resulted into many conflicts and discontentment. The prime example of such discontentment is the Language Movement of 1952 in Bangladesh. On the other hand we can not live in isolation. We have to be in contact with the speakers of other languages. Bangladesh is considered to be a monolingual country in which more than 98% of the population is speakers of Bangla language. However, there are more than ten languages in such a small country like Bangladesh. Monipuri, Urdu, Chakma, Santali, Garo, Rakhain, Tipra- are just some of the other languages present in Bangladesh. The interesting thing...

Guide To Choosing The Right Flight School
Flying an aircraft is the most exhilarating activity man could ever learn, and where height is the ultimate challenge. It takes both skills and dogged determination so as to obtain a career in navigating an aircraft. Determination is an innate quality that pilots must possess in order to endure the rigid training of flight operations. On the other hand, skills are being learned in a flight school. That is why, it is important for a pilot wannabe to get the best flight school available so as to acquire the necessary skills needed in order to pilot an aircraft. In this manner, it can be assumed that the skill of a pilot will be entirely dependent on the type of flight school he or she has enrolled in...
Flights Of Fancy: An Air Of Gratitude
Feeling cranky about air travel? Get a grip. Not on the arm of your passenger seat--on reality, history, and the incredible accomplishment of human flight. We've just celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers' historic flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Although there werecertainly others who were experimenting with flying machines--most notably, Alberto Santos-Dumont, a Brazilian who is widely celebrated in his native country as being the father of aviation--the Wright Brothers are generally regarded as the first to get humans off the ground. The fascinating thing about the Wright brothers is that they were not the idealistic dreamers you might expect them to be. They were serious...

The skies are not always friendly for American air passengers today. Even though experts often claim that flying is a perfectly safe way to travel, recent cost cutting measures by virtually every major carrier in the United States call into question the safety and reliability of air travel. There is little doubt that eventually any kind of reduction in cost will eventually filter down to safety, maintenance, and quality control personnel, thereby increasing the risks and dangerous of traveling by air. Statistics from the National Transportation Safety Board cast a dim light on the future of air travel. Many people seem to take the safety and ease of air travel for granted, but in fact it is an...
Opportunities Abound for Those with Medical Degrees
Every one has ambitions on what they want to be when they grow up. Did you dream of becoming a pilot? Maybe you wanted to be a professional baseball player? You may even have dreamed of becoming Miss America. In my case my ambitions changed every year. It all depended on what career fascinated me at that certain moment of my life. In the end I became a writer, which I began to love from the time I discovered that I possesed a knack for writing when I was in high school. In my opinion, its important to have a career that is related to your interests. Doing something that does not interest you or having a career that is not meaningful can be frustrating. Anything is possible as long as you work hard...
Where's the Best Place to Get Your Pilot Training?
Deciding on where to obtain your pilot training is one of the most important decisions you'll make on your way to becoming a pilot. The first question you need to ask yourself is what is your goal in aviation. Do you want to become a fighter pilot for the US Air Force? Do you want to fly a Boeing 747 for the airlines? Charter pilot? Or, are you interested in aviation not as a career, but just to be able to fly yourself and your family around? I remember when I knew that I wanted to learn how to fly. I was 13 years old and had just taken my first discovery flight at the local airport. Because funds for my pilot training were limited to what I could make washing airplanes and pumping gas at the local...

A digital photo shooting session of airplanes in an air show
A few weeks ago I went with my friends to see an air show. The schedule was packed with acrobatics and many types of planes. The highlight of the show was the blue angles with their jets doing dangerous routines. I took my camera hoping to capture some good digital memories of that show. I took my digital SLR camera to the air show. I put it in my special camera bag alongside an extra battery and lenses. I used an eight mega pixels DSLR with a 100-300mm zoon lenses. I decided to shoot as many photos as I could knowing from my experience that in such cases the rule of big numbers works very well - shoot as many photos as you can and you might be able to find a few photos which are really unique. So...
